Abstract

The article discusses the mechanism of Gogol’s creation of Pushkin’s myth in the poem The Dead Souls and in the book The selected passages from correspondence with friends. A lot of reminiscence have been discovered in Chapter 6. The deconstruction of Chapter 6 reveals the presence of the polemical autobiographical overtones. The problem of goals and objectives of creative activity is in the center of the dispute. The discredit of Pushkin’s conception of the relationships between life and literature occurs in Chapter 6. The analysis of the book The selected passages from correspondence with friends reveals the subsequent logic of the development of Pushkin’s myth.
