Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to present the phraseological unit, which is used for naming and visual demonstration of distant, secluded, hard-to-reach and forgotten places. The subject of analysis are notations of this unit in lexicographic sources, as well as its textual uses (data from the National Corpus of Polish). Particular attention has been paid to conscious and deliberate modifications of the phraseological unit, which were applied in titles: innovations concerning exchange, development, shortening, regulation and contamination. Also, semantic changes resulting from the use of the phraseological unit in a modified form have been analysed.
