Abstract

The research perspective adopted involves biographic exploration and search for the world of values of Zofia Oleksy (her life and pedagogical work). Attempting to answer the question: What made her students – including professors, teachers, writers, priests – recall the talents of their teacher, reminisce their school time and the impact she had on them and other students? – has allowed to pinpoint two core values in the life of this prominent figure: love and work. Materials presented in the article compose a positive image of her. They showcase the attributes of her heart and mind and paint the picture of an activist sacrificing her personal life to work, in which the goal was to support ambitious youth of rural areas on their joyrney to education and a better life. The biographical material is also intended to raise awareness that values should be taught and one should learn to recognise them. The thought process outlined fits well in teaching activities and content realised during Polish classes.
