The article presents the role of ‘ontological safety’ in shaping individual’s identity at time of globalization. The author puts forward a thesis that teaching ‘ontological safety’ plays a crucial role in ensuring cohesion and reasonableness of individual’s existence in ‘risk society’. The acculturation process, which takes place in the modern world, is dangerous for an individual because it causes renunciation of all value systems if the individual has no entrenched ‘ontological safety’. It leaves unpredictable chaos in the world of values, which were clear for an individual so far. The ‘ontological safety’ category, which is the analytical basis for this article, is borrowed from social philosophy of Anthony Giddens.en
