Art historians tend to identify Julian Jończyk with a few trends in art such as material painting at the outset of
his work in the 2nd half of the 1950ies and concrete poetry, as well as performance and environment installations
started in the mid-1970ies. In particular, the paper investigates the second phase of the artist’s work, with focus
on projects and works related to both the artist’s own texts and his image of his body, united by the joint
category of space. The artist presented his ideas in detailed conceptual essays. His works are richly
documented by photographs and carefully edited catalogues. Yet Jończyk’s oeuvre still waits for a thorough academic
analysis.
