The article is an attempt to review the methods of e-book sale and sharing available
on the market of Polish Internet libraries. Based on the practices of selected internet
libraries, it describes ways of buying and renting e-books on end-devices, which are
on the one hand “classic” desktop browsers, mobile devices (smartphones and tablets)
and e-book readers. Particular attention was paid to the solutions which support the
multiscreening and shifting phenomena, which are part of a growing trend) especially
among the younger generation) to use many screens at the same time, also to start
reading on one device and later continue on a different one. Such solutions require
special technological developments, including cloud technologies and user recognition
and authorization procedures. The issue was considered from the point of view
of usefulness, defined as efficiency, performance, effectiveness and satisfaction of
a user who expects an easy, fast and “transparent” delivery process of a selected title
to end devices.
