Abstract

The author of the paper examines the plot of The Neverending Story in the context of Northrop Frey’s archetypal criticism and Carl Gustav Jung’s depth psychology. She distinguishes and then analyzes archetypal images and topoi originating from the Mediterranean literary tradition, which were used by Michael Ende to create a suggestive picture of Fantastica and its inhabitants.
