Polish language education, owing to problems connected with identity, received access to
countless resources of information about human (as the subject and object of education) as
well as the way he exists in the world.
The construction of identity in the perspective of Polish language education is a very complex
process which includes all types of creative activity. It is impossible to analyse identity
without taking the influence of the cultural and social environment into account. Its search
and confirmation take place through the revelation of similarities and require reconciliation
of regionalism and universalism. In this sense, identity enrichment is accomplished through
construction and creation.
The construction stage is connected with the attitude of gradual opening to experiences of the
surrounding world, the existing system of rules, values and socially accepted norms. Identity
creation takes place when we notice similarities and differences of the constant and changeable
elements appearing in one’s own world and in the perspective of the Other. It forms space for
tolerance and critical reflection. Getting closer to the aforementioned problems is possible
due to linguistic, literary and cultural competences. They create the experience of belonging
to the area where given norms, values and ways of behaving apply.
Imposition of radically different conditions of reality perception (unsuitable for one’s age,
abilities, creative potential, needs) contributes to identity crisis and disintegration of the
acquired values.
Owing to the issue of identity, the system of the orientation of contemporary student’s Polish
language education undergoes exceptional enrichment. It also contributes to the improvement
of interpersonal relations.
