Abstract

The article presents the microtoponymic system of two villages located near Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, shown against the background of their past and present. It includes the field names (53 names) of uninhabited places: land and water objects (names of parts of the village are given exceptionally). In the analysis of language material the author uses the semantic classification of names developed by Władysław Taszycki. Differentiation of places (e.g. fields, meadows, forests, gorges, rivers) is reflected both in the content of names (motivation) and in their structure. The main feature of the microtoponymic system is the dialectical background of the lexis contained in the name, e.g. plich, kaluga, kopula, kacer // kacerz. Others are wariants of the names: Kacerne // Kacernia // Kacerna and their alternation: Czerwony Wąwóz // Czerwony Dół // Za Krzyżem.
