The paper deals with the theme of father’s love for his son, which features in the texts of the Old and New Testament. Already in the oldest books it was written that God created man in His own image and bestowed upon him sonship through the sanctifying grace. Thus, the Act of Creation itself brought about the natural bond between God and man, as well as God’s constant care about man—His child. The sonship in the Old Testament was attributed to the whole Israel nation and a few distinguished people. The Fatherhood of God emanates from His spiritual depth, and above all, is the manifestation of faithfulness to oneself and responsible love of Father for His children. According to the Gospels, people became foster children of God through redemption, and may turn to Him, just like Christ did, as to their ‘Father’. God loves His children just like every good father should do. God the Father, who is guided by mercy emanating from love, is described by Christ in His teachings, especially through parables. The Parable of the Prodigal Son, in particular, shows God as a merciful father, who forgives his sinful son, welcomes him in his house deeply moved and grants him a proper place.en
