The article discusses the issues of memory and routinization and it describes their impact
on language acquisition. It points out that memory is a mental function which determines
all cognitive processes and, therefore, it is very important to stimulate it. Routinization,
a phenomenon strongly associated with memory and leading, among other things, to
mastering linguistic skills, is also called automatization or habit-formation. It is also an
essential component of speech programming.
The first part of the article is devoted to memory. It discusses the significance of this
term, describes the types of memory and its anatomical basis. It also outlines the cellular
mechanisms of this cognitive function and the relationship between memory and the age of
a person. The second part of the paper concerns a process of routinization. It explains the
content of that concept and the role of repetition in the process of acquiring skills, including
language skills.
