| dc.description.abstract | The article presents the activity of school and public libraries functioning in West Galicia between 1867 and 1918
and their influence on the society. It presents the activity and book collections of school libraries (both in
community and high schools) as well as first pedagogical libraries that supported the development of teachers. It
characterizes public libraries and the influence of their functioning on educational associations such as
Krakowskie Towarzystwo Oświaty Ludowej (Krakow Folk Education Society), Towarzystwo Szkoły Ludowej (Association for
Public Schools) and Towarzystwo Uniwersytetu Ludowego (Society of People’s University). The article describes the
influence of Biblioteka Publiczna Towarzystwa Oświaty Ludowej (Public Library of the Folk Education Society) on the
development of the Polish public librarianship. | en |
