dc.description.abstract | A lot of attention is devoted to the specificity of the functioning of a family with an autistic child with
emphasis on the conditions of enormous stress and numerous problems burdening the family. Both researchers and
practitioners agree that not only to the child but also the family should be provided with support. However, a
consistent system that would ensure complex care and therapy for an autistic child and his or her family has not
been developed yet.
A child remains within the educational system for a number of years and thus it seems important to consider the
role that school could play in supporting the family. That is why this article analyses the expectations of parents
pertinent to the type of help and support provided by school and the ways in which the school responds to these
expectations. The needs of parents which are not satisfied and the kind of school offer which remains unused by the
parents have also been investigated. The results are discussed in the context of variables such as: the age and sex
of a child as well as whether a child has siblings or not. The abovementioned issues were presented on the basis of
long-term experience of the workers of School Complex for Children and Adolescents with Autism No. 13 in Krakow. | en |
