In 1994 Mental Health Protection Act was supplemented with new solutions describing, among others, the notion of „rehabilitation and education classes” as education and therapy for children, adolescents and adults with severe intellectual disability. It was in 1997 when the Ordinance of the Minister of Education and Sport on the rules of organization of rehabilitation and education classes (Polish Journal of Law No. 14 item 76) was introduced. Provisions of this ordinance were based mainly on the practice of PSOUU institutions. In accordance with the ordinance group and individual classes are organized for children and adolescents aged 3 to 25. They constitute a separate educational path addressed to children and adolescents with severe intellectual disability and are simultaneously a form of fulfilling the obligation of pre-school preparation, school obligation and schooling duty. There are 8 students who presently attend the rehabilitation and education classes in Kolbuszowa County including 7 students aged 3 to 21 and one student between the age of 22 and 25. Only 3 students out of 8 attend group classes, the remaining 5 take part in individual classes. In Ropczyce-Sędziszów County the group rehabilitation and education classes are organized by Special Training and Education Centre in Ropczyce in three non-local teams. The teams are organized at Nursing Home in Lubzina and Day Activity Centre of the Polish Association for Persons with Mental Handicap in Sędziszów Małopolski. There are 11 students participating in the rehabilitation and education classes in the County including 10 students aged 3 to 21 and one student between the age of 22 and 25. It can be observed, on the basis of a comparison of the data from the two Counties on the rehabilitation and education classes at the years 1997–2010, that the number of issued medical certificates stating the necessity of attending such classes is higher in Ropczyce-Sędziszów County (23/4).en
