The aim of the research was to determine if participation in educational workshops could change the attitudes of
secondary school students towards disabled people. It also checked if the level of the attitude change would differ
according to the level of social intelligence
of the examined.
A group of 186 students of the second and third grade of secondary school took part in two-stage workshops. During
the first stage, the attitudes towards the disabled were measured with the use of the PWK-O test. Students were
divided into those with high and low level of social intelligence (1st and 2nd tercile) on the basis of the Retis
test. During the second stage, students divided in such a way participated in randomly chosen workshops dealing
either with the abilities of disabled people or with the abilities of people without disabilities. The attitudes
towards the disabled has bee re-measured after conducting the workshops.
The results have shown the expected effect of participation in the educational workshops in the area of the change
of attitude towards disabled people. It also turned out that the level of the change of attitude was higher in the
case of people with low level of social intelligence regardless of their sex or previous contact with disabled
people.
