The musical theatre „Maja” was created in 1994. It comprises pupils with severe intellectual disability and additional afflictions from the Special Training and Education Centre in Nowy Sącz. The aim of the theatre is to expose the individual abilities of each child, activate his or her creative sphere and thus to influence the child’s versatile psychosocial development. Such a form of work combines various activities, becomes an enriching stimulator of development and thus has a positive influence on the development of our pupils and allows eliciting their hidden abilities. The classes increase self-esteem, are fun, fulfil desires and enrich the sphere of aesthetic experiences. Thanks to them children develop their unique personalities, acquire the ability to participate in a task and support each other. Role play activities also contribute to the creation of nice, kind atmosphere in a group and to the development of one’s own identity. The theatre helps to facilitate the disturbed functions – children dance and sing, they are happy, more resourceful and more open in contacts with other people; the broadly understood level of their communication increases. This form of work with children is the place where children with multiple disabilities develop in the atmosphere of a joyful play.en
