Abstract

The article describes the way of understanding work of intellectually disabled people in the L’Arche Foundation, the community in Śledziejowice where assistants live and cooperate with disabled people. The authors of the article try to describe the unique, characteristic attitude towards the issue of working with the intellectual disability, which stands out in the environment of associations and foundations for disabled people. The Christian spirituality, interpersonal relations, versatile development and the dignity of other people are the foundations for assisting disabled people in their professional development. Opinions of people with intellectual disability presented in the article are evidence of their struggle with the difficulties of life, their own disability and a desire to achieve the status of an employee.
