Różaniec, koronka, mantra – rozważania leksykograficzne

Abstract

W artykule zaprezentowano leksykograficzne historie trzech leksemów, a właściwie ich określonych znaczeń, będących nazwami kontemplacyjnych, powtarzanych modlitw. Są to słowa różaniec, koronka i mantra. Do badań wykorzystano przede wszystkim ogólne i etymologiczne słowniki języka polskiego, zarówno dawne, historyczne, jak i współczesne. W interesującym nas znaczeniu różaniec funkcjonuje w polszczyźnie od XVII wieku, koronka od wieku XVI, a najmłodsza mantra dopiero od końca XIX stulecia. Przedstawiono także etymologie analizowanych wyrazów.

The article presents the lexicographic histories of three lexemes, or rather their specific meanings, which are names of contemplative, repeated prayers. These are the words rosary (różaniec), chaplet (koronka) and mantra. The research was carried out primarily using general and etymological dictionaries of the Polish language, both old, historical and contemporary. In the meaning we are interested in, the rosary has been used in Polish since the 17th century, chaplet since the 16th century and the youngest mantra scarcely since the end of the 19th century. The etymologies of the words analysed were also presented.
