The model of education dominating in Polish high schools (contents based on a chronological or historical-literary scheme) is a reason that works of art like The Last Judgement by Hans Memling are a medium to mainly illustrate and broaden knowledge about literary periods. This outline involves an offer to “read” the triptych of Gdańsk from a perspective of a totally different context – an anthropocentric context, that is a framework in which instead of a simplified course on the history of literature, students are offered a profound reflection on topics which are the most important for human beings (so called canon of universal problems). The author performs a complex interpretation of The Last Judgement in a certain contextual configuration (fragments from the Bible, anthropological texts, works on the history of art etc.) and based on this example the author also explains how to construct a situation of being in contact with a work of art and a situation of interpreting a certain work of art so that a student is enabled to project the meanings independently and as a consequence, he is enabled to learn effectively.en
