dc.description.abstract„Szklana maszyna. Medium to, historycznie związane z muzeami narodowymi, służy analizie języka wizualnego tożsamości zbiorowej. Diorama, balansując między humorem a krytyką, ukazuje napięcia i sprzeczności tkwiące w wyobrażeniach narodowych.pl
dc.description.abstract“Glass machine. Life of images constructing the collective national imagination. Selected case studies” is a research-based art project that explores how images - visual figures, symbols, and motifs — participate in constructing and rsustaining national identity. The research focuses on motifs that function as elements of collective imaginaries and fantasies related to the Polish nation. The theoretical and artistic components of the project complement one another. The point of departures is Hans Belting's anthropological definition of the image, which emphasizes the collective nature of internal visual representations. The theoretical framework draws on Benedict Anderson’s concept of the nation as an imagined community, as well as the theories of nationalism formulated by Ernest Gellner, Eric Hobsbawm, Michael Billig and Tim Edensor. The project approaches nationalism as an ideology embedded in everyday images and gestures, rooted in what is repetitive, familiar, and domestic. The final outcome is the exhibition “Birds Speak Polish”, combining a seriess of paintings with a large-scale diorama. Historically associated with national museums, this medium serves as a tool for analysing the visual language of collective identity. Balancing humour and critique, the diorama reveals the tensions and contradictions inherent in national imaginaries.en
