The title of my article exposes education as a common good with reference to The
Commission of National Education and its policy initiatives for democratization of
education. I wonder how this idea and associated with it different structural solutions,
like axiological and normative, have changed school educational systems. How they were
marginalized and even destructed in these parts of the contemporary reform efforts that
were associated with the creation of the unity of the Polish society. It is worth to ask – how
were taken root and to what extent have been lost key, timeless ideas and values of past
generations to build a democratic society and civil society. How these ideas were uniquely
used into the establishment of Europe’s first ministry of education? The scientific debate,
which took place in the building of Pedagogical University in the 240 anniversary of The
Commission of National Education and named after the Commission, is of particular
importance for the Polish education and modern science education.
