The problematic aspects of research on relations between the Society of Jesus and The
Commission of National Education (KEN) undertaken in historical papers can be
analysed by taking into consideration three criteria: the origins of KEN connected with
the cassation of the Jesuit Order; the history of the assets after the order’s dissolution;
the problem of ex-Jesuits (not)participating in the process of the Polish education reform
implemented by KEN. The achievements of the Commission were usually remembered
on the anniversaries of its founding. At that time, numerous scientific and popular papers
familiarizing the society with the history of the Commission were prepared. The review
of these papers devoted to The Commission of National Education indicates that most
of them were created under the influence of ideology which was obligatory at that time.
Therefore the papers which are ideologically encumbered as well as such issues which
were not thoroughly researched like the ex-Jesuits’ participation in the work of the
Commission require re-evaluation.
