dc.description.abstract | The paper concerns selected issues of ways of understanding PRZYJAŹŃ/FRIENDSHIP by comprehensive school pupils.
Empirical study proves that pupils' interpretation of the word PRZYJAŻŃ/FRIENDSHIP goes beyond semantic frames of
definitions published in dictionaries of the Polish language that take into account only two categories: STOSUNKI
MIĘDZYLUDZKIE/INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS and WIĘŹ/A TIE. Pupils of comprehensive schools. using psychological
categorization and social categorization, place as the first the category UCZUCIE/FEELING and as the second one the
category WIĘŹ/A TIE. Among features connoting prototypical meaning 3. to come to somebody’s help, 6. acceptance o f
partners' equality. Among peripheral meanings pupils count: 1. close friendship, 2. trust, 3. sincerity, 4. desire
to confide, 5. readiness to come to somebody’s help, 6. acceptance o f partners' equality. Among peripheral
meanings pupils number: 1. disinterestedness, 2. heartiness, 3. loyalty.
Interpretation of the word PRZYJAżŃ/FRIENDSHIP by young people is conditioned by many psychological and socio-
