The paper focuses on metaphorical linguistic means that pupils of the third forms used in their short stories.
Research material was gathered at the end of May 2005 and it makes a sample of 50 compositions - 32 written by
pupils of a municipal primary school and 18 by country children. In both groups lessons with the subject My most
interesting adventure were conducted to exercise individual composing and writing short stories. The lessons were
conducted after a discussion about the book Children from Bullerbyn by Astrid Lindgren when pupils presented the
most interesting adventures of characters of the book.
Analysing research material one may notice that pupils from both groups showed a considerable skill in using
conventionalized means of representation. Most metaphorical means are wide-spread compounds and comparisons while
there are few creative, rarely met ones.
