The subject of a description and an analysis in this paper are expressions and sayings functioning in modern Polish language — expressions, sayings, phrases, phrasemes, proverbs, idioms, phraseological comparisons constitutive components of which are names of two precious stones (diamond, pearl) and names of three precious metals (gold, silver, platinum). Expressions, sayings, phrases, phrasemes, proverbs, idioms, phraseological comparisons analyzed in the paper were gathered from the following phraseological dictionaries of contemporary Polish language: S. Bąba, J. Liberek, Mały słownik frazeologiczny współczesnego języka polskiego, Warszawa 1992; S. Bąba, J. Liberek, Słownik frazeologiczny współczesnej polszczyzny, Warszawa 2002; J. Godyń, Od Adama i Ewy zaczynać, Mały słownik biblizmów języka polskiego, Kraków - Warszawa 1995; P. Müldner-Nieckowski, Wielki słownik frazeologiczny języka polskiego, Warszawa 2003. Aims intended in these considerations are as follows: 1) an analysis, an interpretation and a classification of excerpted expressions that complete modern general and colloquial Polish language; 2) showing their current semantic status; 3) calling attention to extralinguistic — important for their description - cultural, gemmological, mineralogical, historical contexts; 4) bringing their vitality, connotative features, stylistic values, derivational possibilities in contemporary Polish language into relief.en_EN
