The article discusses the canonical religious text – The Lord’s Prayer. It was first included in its entirety in the Gospel of Matthew and it belongs to the canon of central prayers of Christianity. It is also one of the oldest texts in the Polish language. In the first part of the paper, the author focuses on the traditional language and style of the prayer. In the second, modern Polish translations of this biblical text are analyzed, especially with respect to unwarranted linguistic modifications introduced in this time-honoured text.en_EN
