Abstract
Philosophical and pedagogic reflection of Jan Legowicz constitutes a component part of the humanum philosophy, which is a contemporary humanistic proposal. Legowicz preceded his philosophical and pedagogical construct with studies over the humanities and rationalism of the French Enlightment. The need to spread the ideas of the humanism as the ideological foundation of the human life is linked with the necessity to restructure the system of school upbringing. Human values, in the context of this particular philosophy of upbringing, should be indications of sense and should justify the goal of every pedagogic activity, both theoretical and practical. Humanum - the central category of Legowicz’s philosophy, functions as the main educational idea. Presentation of his own educational concepts Legowicz preceded with the criticism of the contemporary educational system. The object of the criticism was primarily the central and authoritarian method of programming knowledge and the impersonal and official format of the work with the pupil. The superior characteristic of Legowicz’s philosophical and pedagogic concept is the human value and rationalism. The latter is connected with equipping educational processes with dialectic interpretation, whereas in the practical field of pedagogic humanism what is of greatest importance is subjective treatment of the pupil and dialogical ideal of didactic work.
