Abstract

The sketch presents an analysis of Józef Baran’s diary entitled Koncert dla nosorożca (Poznań 2005). Text interpretation was conducted in view of theoretical considerations of Ryszard Nycz on the issue of sylphlike nature of contemporary literature, of Michał Głowiński’s intimate diary, of Małgorzata Czermmska’s autobiographical triangle and of Philippe Lejeune’s autobiographical pact. The conducted analysis led to the conclusion that Baran’s diary is a sylphlike text in which two times cross: the time of the diary (chronology) and the time of recollections (reaching the author’s childhood and youth). In spite of the fact that the diary comprises the last eight years of the author’s life, such a device allows for many observations from various life periods to be placed in the text, whereas diverse forms of expression (letters, documentaries, aphorisms, poems, confessions, including meta-literary ones) contribute to vividness and liveliness of Baran’s text.
