The frame of the study was the assumption that leukaemia and following anxiety lead to the change of self-concept, which is understood as superior regulator of man's activity.
60 patients with leukaemia treated in Clinic of Hematology in Academy of Medicine in Cracow took part in the study.
In the study there was used clinical method. The level of patient's knowledge about his disease was fixed at 5-steps scale, what gave the ratio of disease's notice. Anxiety was measured with Questionnaire for self-evaluation of Cattell, 10-steps scale of anxiety self- evaluation and scale of patient's behavior observation. The ACL adjective check list of H.G. Gough was used to measure self-concept.
The receiving results lead to the conclusion that patients with leukaemia are in complicated stress situation. High level of anxiety and fear characterizing these patients disturb their previous family-professional activity and lead to disintegration of self-concept and difficulties in self-acceptance.
Psychotherapeutic treatment should be focused on decreasing of anxiety and keeping negative changes in self-concept out and also supporting the positive self-perception what is often unrealistic but conductive for disease adaptation.
