Abstract

The Author of the article looks into the problem of space in the selected magical stories (from the anthology: Kinder- und Hausmärchen by J. and W. Grimm, Żółty smok. Baśnie chińskie, Zamek Soria Moria. Baśnie norweskie) in the context of the gender categories, sexual stereotypes, as well as different models of psychosexual maturation of girls and boys presented by traditional folk tales. The Author presents the polemic approach, to both gender and feminist interpretations. Such attitude towards the problem are described by O. Brzeźniak as one-sided and tendentious in the selection of literary texts. As a support of her thesis, the author presents the examples of tales coming from the folklore other than German, reaching to Chinese and Nordic stories which instead of passive, inactive heroines, present the image of strong, wise and brave women.
