The author of the article presents the strategy of development for Polish education,
accepted by the “Poland 2000 Plus” Forecast Committee, affiliated with the Presidium of
PAN (the Polish Academy of Sciences) , in comparison to international reports. The article
makes a reference to the reports and forecasts of the Ministry of National Education. It also
presents the main conclusions from the project of a development strategy for Polish education,
elaborated by Prof. Czesław Kupisiewicz and the author. The article discusses the priority
problems that require immediate solution and the resulting tasks for pedagogical sciences.
According to the author, the determinants of educational and social transformation in Poland
until 2020 should be: focus on general culture and realization of values of the European
civilization, development of abilities of future employees and increase in the economic
efficiency of their work, strategy to learn at all ages, and recognizing education as the national
priority.
