Every child is obliged by law to fulfill the schooling duty at particular age. However, not
every child can easily find his or her place in the school environment. Children for whom
school adaptation causes considerable problems can take advantage of alternative forms of
education, one of which is home education. The article discusses the legal basis that allows
for fulfilling the schooling duty at home in Poland. It analyzes the results of foreign research
that presents children with special educational needs who are educated at home (this type of
education is not widespread in Poland). The article also shows the positive effects, challenges
and limitations related to this form of education.
