Abstract

In the beginning of the article, an attempt is made to identify the differences between phenomenological and hermeneutic attitudes to an artwork. Then the questions concerning the integral inclusion of interpretation to the artwork, the role of the author and the experiencing subject are asked. The conclusion is connected with the linguistic definition of utterance. As the dual language code (conditioning the existence of text-discourse) does not exist in visual art, the understanding of an artwork as an utterance is possible only in the case of inclusion of the verbal interpretation in the artistic structure.
