dc.description.abstractThe functional diagnosis is the base for the planning process in working with students with moderate and severe intellectual disability. It indicates the importance of the studied phenomenon for a wider context. Behavioral characteristics, their significance for the mental health, identification of environmental adaptation degree, characteristics of the level achieved developmental tasks appropriate to the particular stage of growth, the level of maturity are functional diagnosis elements. The use of functional diagnosis is the first step to take any rehabilitation work with children, youth, adults with moderate and severe intellectual disability. Analysis of the literature shows that the process of functional diagnosis is the complex and multifaceted activity. The issue of own research is the functional diagnosis process in the opinions and evaluations of special institutions teachers, they are members of the diagnostic team, also its coordinators. The results confirm the following words of M. Piszczek (2011, p. 5) “diagnosing of students with moderate and severe intellectual disability and the planning of the work with her/him is not an easy task”.en
