The paper analyzes proper names of scientific and cultural societies – with the basic element society—currently in
activity in Poland. In linguistic literature such names are classified under the category of ideonyms. Generally
speaking, the structure of a society’s proper name is influenced by the following elements: base name + determining
the scope + determining the profile + additional proper name + the patron’s name + information about location.
Modifications concern the completion of the formula (full or shortened), ordering its parts, which may also differ
according to the level of complication and their linguistic form. Basically, there are no names which would contain
all the elements together. Usually the name ends with the information about location, while the additional proper
name appears as the last identifying element, and almost always the patron’s name is placed in this position
