O góralach i ich istocie krańcowej

Abstract

The paper is an attempt at a reconstruction of the linguistic portrait of the Gorale (Polish Highlanders), which is included in the linguistic level of Na przełęczy (On the Mountain Pass) by Stanisław Witkiewicz. The analysis of lexemes and collocations, which the author used to create the highlander hero and world, has shown that this creation is largely subjective and rich in general judgements concerning not individual characters but community. Witkiewicz seems to be fascinated with the Gorale and their life, as well as the changeable and diverse nature in which they live.
