Abstract
As a starting point of cognitive distinctions we take the formula of stipulation o ile wiem, to… [as far as I know…]—collated with the impersonal construction (denied): o ile mi wiadomo [to the best of my knowledge] (with the so-called conventional Dative); these constructions emphasize the fact that the feelings attributed to the dative- case denotat (mi [me]) are independent of his or her will, even if their source lies in his or her own mind or in the body. The concept of the cognitive perspective of interpretation may have some methodological implications, such as didactic distinctions: nie wiem [I do not know] (with the implied subject JA [I]); to nie jest wiadomo [there is no knowing] (with the connector [or the subject?] TO [it]); with the nominal predicate: to nie jest wiadome [it is not known]; to nie jest mi wiadome [it is not known to me] (with the indirect object mi [me]) (functioning as the logical subject); nic mi nie wiadomo [nothing is known to me] (a construction with no subject, or with the subject nic [nothing]). It seems that the Dative in impersonal constructions (mi [me]) is the most proper to be seen as an element which functions as a dependent qualification, which marks the boundary between the dependent complement and the adverbial, but so far there are no reliable texts that would confirm this classification.
