Essential Tremor is categorised as one of the most commonly occurring kinds of extrapyramidal
system disorders. The basic symptoms of the disease include upper limbs tremor, head and
voice tremor. The disorder affects people of different ages, but the first symptoms may be
noticeable in the second decade of life. They may also occur in the later years. Depending on
the intensity of the occurring malfunctions, the disease changes the quality of a patient's life.
It happens so, both in the physical functioning, as it may limit social contacts, as well as in the
emotional state.
The basic speech disorders in patients with Essential Tremor are concerned with breathing
during voice production, with phonation and vowel pronunciation. Therefore, what is of vital
importance in the logopedic therapy of such patients, is mastering the ability of directing
one's voice, using breath support, as well as learning to pronounce vowels in a way that it is
possible to eliminate the voice tremor, either partly or fully.
