dc.description.abstract | The Lviv historians can pride themselves in their achievements in the workshop disciplines, which developed
alongside the basic and specialised ones, especially in the field of auxiliary sciences of history. The latter were
pursued by the academic environment, in Ossolineum and in the National Archive of Town and Land Records. 20 people,
including 18 Poles and 2 Ukrainians, were involved. They were specialists from the fields of heraldry, genealogy,
diplomacy, sigillography, palaeography, historic geography and numismatics. The Lviv historians had the greatest
achievements in the fields of genealogy, heraldry and diplomacy. They published a series of important works that
contributed not only to the development of the auxiliary sciences but also to the whole Polish, and partially also
the Ukrainian, historiography. Works whose results are still up-to-date were produced. These include: Genealogia
Piastów (Genealogy of the Piast Dynasty) by Oswald Balzer, Studia heraldyczne (Heraldic Studies)
by Antoni Małecki, Studia nad dokumentami XII w. (Studies on the 12th century Documents) by Wojciech Kętrzyński,
Ród Pałuków. Monografie historyczne rodów rycerskich w Polsce (The Pułak Lineage. Historic Monographs of the
Knightly Lineages in Poland) and O litewskich rodach bojarskich zbratanych z szlachtą polską w Horodle (On the
Lithuanian Boyar Lineages Fraternised with the Polish Nobility in Horodło) by Władysław Semkowicz, Monografie
