The area of upbringing and education of people with simultaneous occurrence of a number of disabilities or
disorders is unquestionably the most complicated area of care for disabled people. That is why the eminent
representatives of the contemporary special education in Slovakia (Š. Vašek, A. Vančová, E. Kollárová, I. Bajo, K.
Čajka, D. Tarsciová, M. Schmidtová, O. Németh, J. Lopúchová and others) devote more attention to the phenomenon.
Moreover, they have raised the issue that used to constitute a marginal part of particular specializations to the
rank of an independent specialization, namely the pedagogy of people with multiple disabilities.
The article focuses on a group of people with a particularly serious combination of multiple disabilities, so-
called multiple sensory disorder, i.e. on the deaf-blind and their care in the Republic of Slovakia. The paper also
presents theory and practice of special education of deaf-blind people in Slovakia and the Evangelical Special
Primary School with a dormitory for deaf-blind children established in 1992 in Cervenica near Presov.
