Innowacja Pedagogiczna „Zakątek”. Propozycja empirycznego modelu szkoły dla dzieci i młodzieży z głęboką, wieloraką niepełnosprawnością

In 2010 „Na Tak” Association submitted a pedagogical innovation Zakątek. Its aim was to create a school that would
satisfy the special needs of a group of students with multiple disabilities (severe mental retardation with co-
occurring disorders). Pedagogical Innovation „Zakątek” consists in an inculcation of individualization of
influences on a student with severe multiple disabilities and includes the following spheres related to the
student: the student, personnel working with him or her, the student’s family, the environment. The influences
directed at the students include: individual care, individual diagnosis, programme and aims, individual
documentation, therapy, group classes adjusted to the needs of students. Innovations pertinent to the personnel
include: the people employed (physiotherapists, supervisors) and their duties as well as the system of supporting
the personnel (3 level system). Innovation in the area of working with parents includes the contract and means of
communication with parents. Cooperation with the environment describes the activities connected with functioning
within the society, organization of meetings with peers, cooperation with the university. The article describes a
way of working with people with severe multiple disabilities selected after years of searching (active methods of
alternative communication and Basale Stimulation).
