The article discusses the experiences of a Krakow Vocational Training School in conducting classes with people with
multiple disabilities using the method of projects. It presents scripts of lessons and describes the realization of
the Day for life project which comprises cooking and travelling classes. The way of conducting the classes is
adjusted to the abilities, experiences and functioning level of the students.
Cooking classes are not limited to preparing meals only. The following aims are distinguished: familiarization with
traditional regional and world cuisine (through visits in restaurants among others), economic training, social
training, development of the skills of planning one’s own activities, development of communication, familiarization
with culture of various countries, stimulation of the life of school community and the development of cooking
skills.
Day for life is a project with extremely expressive aspects. Apart from „We get to know world cuisine” and „Cafes”
cooking classes, trips outside the school are its another important element. They are organized in order for the
students to acquire the ability of spending spare time creatively, to train the skills of behaving and managing
personal affairs in public utility facilities.
Students’ interest in these classes is high and we happily observe that the range of experiences from various
projects has a positive influence on the development of students and gives them a chance for better orientation in
the world. That is why we believe that Day for life, thanks to its interdisciplinary character, is an important
means to achieving the aim of preparing a person with multiple disabilities to the adult life.
