The article presents problems of planning individual educational programme in vocational training school from the
perspective of future activity of people with multiple disabilities. When planning the work the teacher and the
team wonder what should be taught. What will be necessary for a disabled person in his or her adult life? What he
or she should be prepared to? What skills should be emphasized? In order to answer these questions the teacher/team
should „see” the student in the future. Only then education can function properly.
By conducting a short analysis of today’s state of affairs we want to show how contemporary school deals with
preparing disabled people for adult life (the graduate project, internships, cooperation with the places of future
activity). The analysis focuses on the activity at occupational therapy workshops and centres for people with
special needs, protected labour market, short-term projects, lack of activity, living in home with parents who grow
old or in nursing homes.
We observe an increased level of fear connected with the future in this group of students (17–24 years old) as well
as among their parents. The issue of housing of disabled people becomes important from the perspective of relieving
the parents, from the perspective of the development of these people after leaving home, finally from the
perspective of the teacher/team who would have a better idea about what to teach if the system solutions were
suitable. It seems that dealing with the issue of housing would slightly reduce the fear of the future.
