The appearance of a disabled child in a family makes the situation within the family change
dramatically, both internally and externally. Problems and limitations accumulate in layers
being caused by the necessity of supplying for special needs connected with special care,
rehabilitation and needs of the disabled child. Such a situation releases negative emotions
and triggers unfavorable defense mechanisms building up emotional strain. All these family
problems can be solved or even eradicated only when the family gets comprehensive
help. Such help can be specialist, therapeutic, educational, informative or non-institutional in
form. Only a properly functioning network of social support enables those parents to fulfill
their parental duties.
