O potrzebie nowej syntezy dziejów polszczyzny biblijnej

Abstract

Celem artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na potrzebę opracowania nowej syntezy dziejów obecności Biblii w języku polskim. Argumentem przemawiającym na rzecz tej propozycji jest fakt, że jedyna i niekompletna próba tego rodzaju opisu historycznojęzykowego dokonana została w połowie ubiegłego stulecia. Od tego czasu datuje się ogromny przyrost nowych i różnorodnych inicjatyw w dziedzinie polskich przekładów Pisma Świętego, jak też studiów nad tą częścią rodzimego dziedzictwa językowego. Zdaniem autora dzieje biblijnej domeny polszczyzny w sposób istotny partycypują w szerzej pojętej historii polszczyzny ogólnej, nadając językowi i kulturze polskiej szczególny rys tożsamościowy. Wielowiekowa i trwale poświadczona obecność Biblii w języku polskim stwarza także podstawy do wyjaśnienia szeregu zjawisk i procesów, jakim język polski podlegał na przestrzeni swej historii. Artykuł postuluje szersze niż dotychczas spojrzenie na biblijną odmianę języka polskiego, postrzeganą jako centrum całościowo pojętego stylu religijnego, obejmujące wielorakie sfery obecności dziedzictwa biblijnego w języku polskim: przekłady Pisma Świętego, literackie odwołania biblijne, a także nawiązania do tematyki biblijnej w tekstach polskich nabożeństw, modlitw, litanii oraz pieśni kościelnych.

The aim of this article is to draw attention to the need for a new synthesis of the history of the presence of the Bible in the Polish language. The argument in favour of this proposal is that the only and incomplete attempt at this kind of historical‑linguistic description was made in the middle of the last century. Since then, there has been a tremendous growth of new and varied initiatives in the field of Polish translations of Scripture, as well as studies on this part of the native linguistic heritage. In the author’s opinion, the history of the biblical domain of the Polish language participates in a special way in the broader history of Polish language in general, giving the Polish language and culture a special identity feature. The centuries‑ old and permanently attested presence of the Bible in the Polish language also provides a basis for explaining a number of phenomena and processes to which the Polish language has been subjected throughout its history. The article postulates a broader view of the biblical variety of the Polish language, perceived as the centre of a comprehensive religious style, encompassing multiple spheres of the presence of the biblical heritage in the Polish language: translations of the Holy Scriptures, biblical literary references, as well as references to biblical themes in the texts of Polish devotions, prayers, litanies and church songs.
