Syntactic and semantic properties of the -ing formations in English of the type: My writing the article seriously affected the amount of time I spent with Olivia

Abstract

The aim of this article is to present a classification and a comparative analysis of the -ing formations in English making a clear distinction between their verbal and nominal properties. This, I hope, should be of some help in the process of teaching these forms to speakers of languages other than English.
