The Commission of National Education is one of the most studied public institutions
in Polish history. It would seem that we know everything about it, and our knowledge
is true. It turns out, however, that the description of its origin and its achievements is
full of stereotypes that, with their simplifications and an unwarranted certainly, limit the
freedom of research and portraying the greatness of the Commission compared with its
actual achievements. The study of stereotypes are most appropriately carried out by the
methods used for the social sciences. The sociological approach to the subject opens up new possibilities of interpretation while maintaining respect for the existing results source
research.
