200-years anniversary associated with the foundation of The Commission of National
Education, celebrated in the year 1973, were an integral part of the Polish Year of Science.
The year of the jubilee was designed to be a period of intensive, multidirectional actions
headed for improvement of didactic-educational work, popularization of the teaching
profession as well as promulgation and deepening of the pedagogical culture amongst
society.
One of the attractive forms presenting of an output of The Commission of National
Education, were expositions which estimated to an amount of 6 thousand. They played
a major role in the aspect of popularization of The Commission of National Education
achievements. Commission’s textbooks, old prints, document photocopies and paintings
of CNE’s activists were also a part of the exposition. Amongst the organisers, pedagogical
and collegiate libraries were most identifiable. More important were yet sessions
organized among many science societies. At the same time all over the country there were
organized 1558 science sessions, popular science, symposiums and collegiums. Sessions
and conferences associated with CNE’s jubilee pointed out problematic current scene of
decisions made during the Enlightenment period, among what the most important was
the problem of patriotic and civil education. Spearheaded researches, were then continued
for following years, contributing to deepening and profounding knowledge about the age
of Enlightenment in Europe and Poland. The purpose of this elaboration is to simply remind just a few forms commemorating
this event: expositions, symposiums and science conferences, to present the reach of their
activity as well as to connote important names of notable authors in field of educational
history whose contribution, in mentioned before celebrations raised the prestige of the event.
