Polish communists, while implementing a new educational system in Poland, referred to
the so-called progressive traditions of history of Polish education. They were convincing
the society that transformations in upbringing and education resulted from the most
progressive and leading idea in the world based on the basis of Marxism-Leninism. So
the contents concerning The Commission of National Education could not be and were
not particularly popularized except school history course. Historians have studied the
history of The Commission of National Education, there were publications about it but it
did not correspond to an access to information about this institution. Information about
The Commission of National Education could come out in a form which was addressed
to the school and all Poles especially during historical anniversaries of this institution,
school apprenticeship – especially the beginning of school year or teachers’ days. However,
anniversaries of establishing The Commission of National Education did not find
recognition both among party and educational decision-makers. It was phenomenon to
link in 1972 teachers’ day, organizationally and formally, with a day of establishing the first
Polish educational ministry. Reasons for this should be searched in willingness of teachers
to commit into public life.
