The article is a linguistic microanalysis of the origins, status and history of a single
phraseological unit ziarnko gorczycy ( the mustard seed). It is classified thematically
in the Polish language as a floristic set expression of Biblical origin. A detailed report
on this phraseologism is an opportunity to point out the rhetorical contexts of other
Polish Biblical expressions and their lexicographic descriptions. As a lexical unit that
represents a thematically specific phraseological group, ziarnko gorczycy allows for
additional linguistic and cultural research that points to the pictures of the Biblical world
entrenched in the Polish language.
